Change an entity's parent

When would you change an entity's parent/location?

You would change parents when you wish to relocate the hierarchy of certain objects particularly as your model's architecture and design dictates. Some situations when you might want to do this include:

A new default location for components and/or connections.

Constraints that require moving items to their valid locations.

Organising objects such as standards, types, views, or dashboards into groups.

Re-ordering the way objects are laid out in your ABACUS project.

How to change an entity's parent/location

To initiate changing a entity's parent, using the left mouse button in the explorer toolwindow, drag one item onto another or in between two other entities within the same category. Upon releasing the left mouse button the entity will have changed location if you had permission to do so.

Specifically for components and connections you can alter the parent in a dialogue that lets you select only valid parents using the right-click context menu via the Change Parent... option or through the hierarchy column in catalogues.

 Tip

The context menu option supports selecting multiple components or connections to change numerous items all at once.
