Assigning Types a Default Hierarchy

Upon creation, elements will be placed either under the specified location, the root location of the architecture (highest level possible) or if set, at their types Default Hierarchy. The default hierarchy can be used to help prevent improper placement of elements, automatically placing them at a specified location in the architecture.

Setting a Component/Connection types Default Hierarchy

1.Right-Click the particular elements type you wish to edit the default hierarchy.

2.Click Edit Default Hierarchy Path.

3.Enter the text for the default hierarchy you wish to use while following the dialog's instructions. Note: Separating the layers of the hierarchy with the "|" (pipe) character.

4.Click OK to save.

Things to consider

If the default hierarchy path is empty, it will automatically place the component/connection at the root level.

The Default Grouping Name is used to fill out missing component/connection parts of the hierarchy by adding them in when the hierarchy does not exist, fulfilling the hierarchy.

The first valid default hierarchy that is found will be the one that is used.
